“In their Footsteps”—Watercolor (2), framed

I was struck by the colorful saris and the courage of the women widows who we met, many who had been made to feel like nothing, (faceless and nameless) after their marriages ended through death or divorce. But feet, like the roots of trees are strong, they hold us up in tough times and I became fascinated with painting the feet of the widows to symbolize all of this.  It was humbling and an honor to paint something so personal and vulnerable and I hope I did it (and them) justice.
