Impact the lives of widows and their children!

Through your donation, widows start sustainable businesses to lift their families out of poverty! Funds also provide their children educational opportunities

Ms Thangam and Ms Valarmathi operate a wayside food stall near their homes. With a loan of 30,000 rupees (about $350 dollars), the women bought materials for cooking and established their business. They prepare breakfasts as well as soup, tea and snacks in the evenings. With a micro-credit loan from their self-help group, they are able to make a sustainable income and support their families.

Since 2016, Friends of Kalangarai has been supporting Kalangarai’s community-based programs including self-help groups, entrepreneurship training, microcredit loans, and human rights advocacy for vulnerable Indian widows. Friends also support the educational needs of the women’s young children and provide scholarships for widows’ daughters to attend college.

Their needs for sustainable livelihoods and their fight for human rights continue as the widowed women are marginalized and the poorest of the poor in India. Your support continues. Help us make a difference in their lives. Thank you.
